Refill – the future of retail?

In general, the norm in retail is still to offer the consumers single-use packaging of liquid products both when it comes to food (ketchup, milk, yoghurt, sauces etc.) and hygiene products (shampoo, conditioner, clean- and wash products etc.). This kind of products are still usually packed in bottles or containers which are designed to be used once and then thrown away, or in the best case recycled.

In general, consumers are more and more conscious about the environment and how to contribute to a better situation of our planet. For example, you may bring your own bag to the local grocery store to avoid buy a new plastic bag, or maybe you have a refillable coffee cup and/or water bottle to avoid single-use packaging during the day etc. The examples are many and a lot of consumers contribute in different ways to a positive impact on the environment.

Together with Asept, you can change the industry and offer more Refill stations to the consumers at the local stores. The Refill-concept can reduce a lot of packaging waste and maintain the quality of the liquid product inside.

How does it work?

The consumer brings their own reusable packaging, e.g. a plastic or glass bottle, to the store. They refill the container in a dispenser at the store and pay per volume or weight. When the product is used and container empty, the consumer brings it back to the store to refill again. All liquid products from ketchup, yoghurt to shampoo and conditioner are applicable for this Refill-concept.

This is the way we at Asept want the industry to be shaped going forward. Are you interested to know more and see what we can do together please contact Vice President, Patric Hammarlund ( or responsible for Personal Care products, Fredrik Linse (
