A premium brand requires a premium and sustainable dispensing solution

Hellmann’s – a premium brand that belongs to Unilever – is famous worldwide for its high-quality mayonnaise and other cold sauces.

In order to strengthen the brand reputation even more, and to improve the customers and consumers experience, Unilever wanted to develop a new premium and sustainable dispensing solution that really stands out, communicates the brand in a clear way and gives a premium feeling to the brand.

Design, development and production

From a given and approved design sketch, Asept was chosen as a partner to develop the dispensing solution for production. In a rather short time, Asept managed to solve some of the more complicated challenges that the approved design brought. For instance, to get the desired metallic surface of the dispenser, Asept used the rather new technology Water Transfer Printing to make the surface look like brushed aluminum. This is a cost-effective solution compared to manufacturing the house out of stainless steel our aluminum.

A sustainable dispensing solution

To use a portioning system based on an air-free pouch for the food, and a vacuum pump in a hard, long-lasting dispenser, is in line with Unilever’s strategy towards a circular economy (“Use less plastic, but also ensure the plastic we do use can be reused, recycled or composted”) The amount of plastic in relation to food content in a pouch is much smaller than in single-use sachets (less than 10%). The vacuum-pump, based on Asept’s technology, empties the pouch effectively, leaving very little food residue. This, together with the fact that both the dispenser and the pump are very durable and last for many years, and are then recyclable, contribute to sustainability.

Hygienic and saves on time

The new dispenser must be easy to use, not only for the guests, but also for the staff. The Asept vacuum-pump has just a few parts and is therefore easy to disassemble and clean, which is important both from a hygienic perspective and for efficiency. Watch a video here:

No mess for the guests

The guests will appreciate the nice design, but also the distinct and drip free portioning. A fresh condiment center gives a positive experience for the guests and raises the impression of the brand.
